This week, we worked on decompressing from the beach trip and getting back into our routine. It is not officially Autumn, my favorite season, and we are thrilled to have opportunities to wear sweaters now.
This week ends on Michaelmas, a "festival of strong will." Michaelmas celebrates the stories and adventures of Sir George, a young boy, slaying the dragon after finding his inner strength with the help an guidance of the Archangel Michael. We found a few books and stories related to the topic, the favorite was one that we bought at a thrift store in Ocracoke. The Squire and the Scroll was about guarding your heard from evil, and it featured a young boy slaying a dragon. We also read the story and did a few activities including the Almond Butter Cookies (recipe below) from A Wise And Glorious Purpose's guide to Michaelmas.
While at our favorite park with some great friends, the girls observed the magnolia seed pods were beginning to open! We found a few with open pods and the girls proceded to take all the seeds out they could, dissecting some, and observing the white thread at the end of each seed. (We later learned that this is the future tree trunk, not the root.) The girls planted many seeds, and took home pockets of seeds to plant as well.

They were delicious following the recipe, and very suitable for breakfast as well as desert. I would add chocolate chips or Craisins next time.
