October 8-14, 2012

We have had another fun week! We spent a lot of time painting this week- mommy included. This explains the lack of school room shots this week- mommy's hands were busy and messy! We painted and colored many seasonal scenes and explored outside to observe the changing of the tree colors.

Rainbow Girl added some to her October Calendar: A pumpkin, the ferris wheel, and our camping adventure.

We began finger knitting this week! What fun! I found a great video on youtube which we watched a couple times through so we both knew what we were doing, and away we went! On only her first attempt, she did it [almost] completely by herself! She was thrilled that she was creating something.

"I think I will make this scarf for you, the next scarf for Mary [her doll], and the next for Emily Elisabeth [her bear]. You can make one for me, Mommy."
I must comment on what she is wearing. We LOVE going to thrift stores. Rainbow Girl picked out some spectacular dance recital costumes last time we were there, as well as this lovely fall vest. She is wearing one of the recital costumes under the vest. :)
As we do every Thursday, In the morning we deliver produce to our area through a local co op. We all have a lunch and nap when we get home and then have supper before heading out to Girl Scouts!

Receiving her Daisy Girl Scout Pin.
This week, the girls worked on earning their Courageous and Strong petal. Our wonderful leader created some Girl Scout themed games, which we played as the sun went down and it became dark. They showed their courage in the dark, and their strength playing the games!

This week was International Babywearing Week. One of the many hats that I wear is Volunteer Babywearing Educator (VBE) and Historian with BWI of Central Virginia. This year we held a group yard sale at a local church. All the kids had a great time playing with each other while we held the sale.

My table :)

The next day, we took a trip to Carter Mountain to go apple picking. Last year we went in early September and we definitely preferred that to going in mid October. In September the crowds were very minimal and the trees were full of apples! This visit, the parking lot was full, there were people everywhere, and we had to hike very far up the mountain to find any apples. I did not mind the hike so much, and the kids did amazing walking the whole way- but it was very crowded.

We started our adventure by taking a hay ride around the orchard while eating apple cider donuts.

Then we joined the pilgrimage up the mountain. Sugar Bear enjoyed stopping right in front of people to pick up rocks to put in his pockets.

Then we finally found apples! Rainbow Girl was thrilled that there were some at her level to pick.

We found baby apples too!

Down the mountain! Just look at all those people and all those cars!

After that hike, my mom and I treated ourself to a wine tasting (which left much to be desired) while the kids played on our phones.

Then we had a rest.
