August 31-September 6, 2015 (Our First Week of School!)

Axel and his tree, planted with his placents on his first birthday.

We are so excited to get started with our lessons this year! This year, Skylar (age 8) is in third grade, Axel (age 5) is in Kindergarten, and Alanis is a curious toddler. We will be using Cynthia Schottel's Seasonal Guides for our circle time and seasonal recipies and stories.

For Skylar, we will be will be using mostly the Waldorf Essentials Third Grade Curriculum. To that, I have added a cursive handwriting program by Handwriting Without Tears.  She will also be attending a history class at the local Historical Society.

Axel has a handwiting book from HWT, as well as a Kindergarten workbook.

For science, we have signed up for the Spangler Science Club and we will recieve monthly boxes of experiments. Skylar and Axel are both involved in Spiral Scouts, and Skylar remains a Brownie in Girl Scouts. They will both be involved in gymnastics.

We were so excited to open up our first box from the Spangler Science Club! It was packed with all we needed for many experiements. We opened up the instruction book which has beautiful step by step photos for each experiement and got started.

We did the first four experients in the book, and it entertained for almost an hour. The book has many many more experiements, and all the needed supplies to redo several if wanted. I am so pleased with the box and and am excited to see what's in the next one.

Once a week, we meet with our Tribe. This week, we celebrated the second birthday of one of our littlest friends. We had a pot luck and a water balloon fight together, followed by hours of play in the playground and creek. I love them all so dearly. <3

On our way home from Tribe, we drove through the beginnings of a terrible storm. We arrived home to find the power out! Scarily, the storm just got worse and we had to seek shelter due to the high winds- our house is surrounded by trees, and our main room has a huge picture window. While huddled up in a lower door way with my babes and one of their friends who had come home with us from the park, the kids were pretty worried. I started to say one of their favorite verses from playgarden ("Rufty and Tufty") and they all calmed down, started reciting it with me and doing the hand motions. It was a wonderful moment- and no trees fell on the house.

When the remaining members of our best friend's family arrived, the kids were quick to find things to do with the lack of power. We all played with Play-Doh for a while before the girls and boys split off. The girls played dress up for a while before going out to play in the mud puddles. The boys did some drawing before asking to do science experiments. They experiemented with baking soda and vinegar...then added stale oatmeal, flour, chips and water. Yay science! We ended our no power fun day with ordering pizza!

Fun instagrams of the week.
