Until a few days ago, Rainbow Girl had never had a haircut. Never in her 5 years and 8 months of life. Not even a trim.
She loves her hair, and always pushed away the idea of getting a trim. I wouldn't have ever pushed the idea, but she is terrible when it comes to brushing. She screams bloody murder the entire time. We have invested in special "magic" brushes that are suppose to help with getting knots out easy, special shampoos and conditioners, and detanglers. Nothing seems to help ease her sadness and apparent pain during brushing.
Her fear of haircuts apparently stems from the Disney movie, Tangled. She sees herself as Rapunzel. Children always tell her that she looks like the long haired princess, and she just loves it. In the movie Tangled, when Rapunzel's hair is cut, it turns brown and looses it's power. She swears that when she sings the "Healing Incantation" song, her hair glows like Rapunzel's. She is 5, and she has a fabulous imagination.
We have had a running response in the last few months when she asks for something. Very much as a joke, she asks for something, be it a glass of milk or to go to a museum and daddy or I occasionally would reply, "If you get a haircut." She giggles, and we generally do what she has asked, if it is a reasonable request.
She was sitting in my lap while I was checking my email on this particular day. Up popped an email from Build A Bear. You can probably see where this is going. It was an email introducing the new Princess Bear. She asked for it, I said "If you get a haircut." She said "SURE!"
I closed my laptop and we talked and talked about it. I wanted to make sure that she really was ready for a haircut, not just that she wanted a new bear. She really did seem ready, but we still waited til later in the day. I asked her again a few hours later, and she still seemed ready
Flower, gleam and glow
Let your power shine
Make the clock reverse
Bring back what once was mine
Heal what has been hurt
Change the Fates' design
Save what has been lost
Bring back what once was mine
What once was mine
Six and a half inches of baby hair. |
She was given this special box when she was one, and we are finally using it. Her "First Curl" is far too big to fit in the little jar though. |
Before and After |
As promised, because she was such a big girl, we did go to Build A Bear a few days later. The ladies there could not believe that she had just had her first hair cut. "WOW! How long was it!?!"
This Build A Bear nap brought to you by babywearing. |
